It is not illegal to possess counterfeit currency; it is illegal to possess counterfeit currency with fraudulent intent (Title 18, Section 472 of the United States Code). Below is an excellent example of a counterfeit US bill. It was given to me by a friend who works for the US Secret Service, the agency responsible for safeguarding the nation's financial infrastructure and payment systems, thus preserving the integrity of the US economy. It was believed to have been printed in Ethiopia. This bill is done so well, you and I would easily accept it as a genuine bill. Unbelievable quality.

The largest denomination bill ever printed by the US Department of Treasury was a $100,000 gold certificate in 1934, featuring a portrait of President Woodrow Wilson. Today, the largest US bill available is a $100 bill. So when a $1,000,000 comes around, it's clearly for fun. Oddly enough, in March 2004, a 35-year-old woman in Georgia attempted to pay for $1,671.55 in Wal-Mart merchandise with a $1,000,000 bill, perhaps hoping the clerk would give her $998,328.45 in change. The bill below is not the same design as the one used by the Georgia woman, but it's equally a hoot. It was printed "to promote special events and good times."

Religious tracts can be very creative. Here is one example. Unfortunately, the serious message printed on the back is in such small print, it's rather difficult to read. Still, done very well.
