Due to budget constraints at MSU, no championship rings were awarded. In 1986, Coach Ron Mason honored Amo Bessone and 1966 team by having special championship rings made.

Beat Michigan 4-1 in Great Lakes Invitational tournament championship; finished CCHA regular season in fourth place; lost CCHA playoff semifinal; beat Boston University 5-1 in first round of NCAA playoffs; beat top-ranked Notre Dame 2-1 in second round; beat Maine 4-2 in Frozen Four semifinal (after having been down 2-0 just four minutes into game); beat Boston College 3-1 for 2007 national championship. Championship ring bears likeness of Justin Abdelkader's game-winning goal, and three emeralds depicting MSU's three national championships (1966, 1986, 2007). "Just Play Our Game" inscribed inside ring.
